For this episode we visit ‘The Big House’. That’s right, we head behind bars to talk all about prison movies. We’ve excluded women-in-prison (as that is an episode unto itself) but here we talk all about Alcatraz, a couple of Stephen King adaptations, and that time that Jean-Claude Van Damme went undercover in prison to hunt down a serial killer(?!). There’s many more flicks set in ‘The Joint” that we cover and it would be ‘criminal’ if you don’t listen – I’m done with the silly jokes now.

Episode 53: Under the Sea
Plenty of unknown things lurk under the water and for the latest episode of GBW we go diving into the horror genre to bring you some of our favourite (and not so favourite) water based monster movies.
Instead of focusing on sharks, octopi, and other water based animals we’ve decided to only discuss things that aren’t quite of nature. We’re talking Humanoids, mutant monsters galore, and even a creature from the black lagoon. These water dwelling beasts have had enough of humankind invading their homes and will do anything to prove it.
Episode 52: American Zombies
With the return of “The Walking Dead” upon us, we’ve decided to dive into the flesh-eating sub-genre of zombie flicks placing our focus on the American made entries.
We all know that George A. Romero and Night of the Living Dead is responsible for reinventing zombies in 1968 but what about what came before that? Was it all just voodoo and non-gut munching? And what do we think are worthy movies that followed in Romero’s wake?
Tune in as we talk all about the undead and their cravings for flesh! First we talk about what we’ve been watching including newer fare like The Love Witch and Train to Busan as well as the torture porn-like home invasion of The Collector, a third trip to the world of The Lost Boys, and the first installment of “JOSH’S VHS ADVENTURES” where our brave co-host tries to pare down his VHS collection and starts with a whole lot of Philip Michael Thomas.
Episode 51: RoboCop Franchise
Nowadays 1987’s RoboCop is considered a sci-fi/action classic. We thought it was time to revisit the entire franchise and learned all about the law of diminishing returns. We also declare that Paul Verhoeven is awesome, Frank Miller needs to stick to writing comics, and Peter Weller is, in fact, the man. (Plus Josh really doesn’t like Nancy Allen in these movies).
First off we talk about what we’ve been watching with us both weighing in on The Final Girls and Blair Witch as well as some Cynthia Rothrock, 80’s comedy spoofing, and cannibalistic westerns. Plus much more!
Episode 50: Todd Masters
We made it! That’s right, GBW has hit 50! And what better way to celebrate than to bring you our biggest guest ever!
To help us celebrate our 50th, we talk to effects maestro Todd Masters. The head of Masters FX and having worked on such films as Slither, Night of the Creeps, and Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight as well as such big name television shows as “True Blood” and “Fringe”, Todd was kind enough to allow us to visit his Vancouver studio and sit down with us to talk all about his career including some amazing stories and a whole bunch of laughs.
Episode 49: Top Ten 80’s Action
Growing up in the 80’s was the prime time for some high testosterone manliness and THE decade for the All-American action hero. The kind of guy who could take out an entire army of baddies all by himself – usually with guns that never seemed to need reloading. We’re talking names such as Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone.
What are our favourite 80’s action flicks? Which would we not hesitate to recommend to those who (sadly) missed out on this prime-time for over-the-top and ridiculous action? Tune in and hear both of our lists – and be as surprised as we are at a couple of the entries.
Episode 48: The Raimi
With his kinetic energy, creative camera movements, and (at times goofy) sense of humour, Sam Raimi has made tons of memorable films during his career. Aside from being behind one of the more iconic horror franchises in the past thirty-years with The Evil Dead; Sam also directed the best superhero movie of all-time with Spider-Man 2, tackled westerns with The Quick & The Dead, and even took a trip to the land of Oz. He also has produced such cult favourites as “Xena: Warrior Princess” and horror flicks under the Ghost House label as well as trying his hand in acting. We dig the guy and talk all about him in Episode 48.
First we talk about what we’ve watched and somehow manage to relate “Stranger Things”, the Ghostbusters remake, and Suicide Squad to each other as well as talk about some killer bugs (Infested), one of David Lynch’s finest films (The Elephant Man), and Josh goes back on his word and watches Lake Placid vs. Anaconda – plus much more!
Episode 47.5: Deadly Vehicles
We’ve finished talking about what we’ve watched and now it’s time to talk all about “Deadly Vehicles”. From the supernatural revenge-fueled hatred of Christine, to the demented trucker of Duel, and all sorts of vehicular mayhem. Tune is as Josh and Chris talk all about the deadliest flicks on wheels!
Episode 47: Catching Up
Episode 47 is now available!
Oh, boy, do we have a lot of movies to talk about this time! So many, in fact, that we’ve decided to split this episode into two parts.
This first installment has Chris and Josh bringing you up to speed on what they’ve been watching including some anthologies by the way of V/H/S 2, a whole bunch of movie/music related documentaries (I Am Thor, to name one), and tons more. This is what happens when we don’t talk about these things for a month!
Episode 46: Vince D’Amato
This week on GBW we welcome special guest, Vince D’Amato.
A staple on the Vancouver indie film circuit for around fifteen years, Vince co-founded Creepy Six Films who are responsible for such flicks as Carmilla (aka Vampires vs. Zombies) and The Hard Cut, is the programmer/director of Shivers Film Society who strive to bring lesser-known indie films and classics to the bring screen as well as organize special guests such as Lloyd Kaufman, and he has also formed Brivido Giallo to creature modern day giallo inspired films.
We fill Vince up with plentiful beer for an interview that spans such topics as his first horror movie experiences, how he became an indie director and the challenges along the way, what the impetus was for forming Shivers, and even manage to get some giallo recommendations for those of us (like Chris) who are just starting to get into the sub-genre.
