Growing up in the 80’s was the prime time for some high testosterone manliness and THE decade for the All-American action hero. The kind of guy who could take out an entire army of baddies all by himself – usually with guns that never seemed to need reloading. We’re talking names such as Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Sylvester Stallone.

What are our favourite 80’s action flicks? Which would we not hesitate to recommend to those who (sadly) missed out on this prime-time for over-the-top and ridiculous action? Tune in and hear both of our lists – and be as surprised as we are at a couple of the entries.

With his kinetic energy, creative camera movements, and (at times goofy) sense of humour, Sam Raimi has made tons of memorable films during his career. Aside from being behind one of the more iconic horror franchises in the past thirty-years with The Evil Dead; Sam also directed the best superhero movie of all-time with Spider-Man 2, tackled westerns with The Quick & The Dead, and even took a trip to the land of Oz. He also has produced such cult favourites as “Xena: Warrior Princess” and horror flicks under the Ghost House label as well as trying his hand in acting. We dig the guy and talk all about him in Episode 48.

We’ve finished talking about what we’ve watched and now it’s time to talk all about “Deadly Vehicles”. Oh, boy, do we have a lot of movies to talk about this time! So many, in fact, that we’ve decided to split this episode into two parts.

This first installment has Chris and Josh bringing you up to speed on what they’ve been watching including some anthologies by the way of V/H/S 2, a whole bunch of movie/music related documentaries (I Am Thor, to name one), and tons more. This is what happens when we don’t talk about these things for a month!

A staple on the Vancouver indie film circuit for around fifteen years, Vince co-founded Creepy Six Films who are responsible for such flicks as Carmilla (aka Vampires vs. Zombies) and The Hard Cut, is the programmer/director of Shivers Film Society who strive to bring lesser-known indie films and classics to the bring screen as well as organize special guests such as Lloyd Kaufman, and he has also formed Brivido Giallo to creature modern day giallo inspired films.

Somehow in 1979, Penthouse hooked up with some Italian filmmakers and “legit” actors like Malcolm McDowell and Helen Mirren to make a historical film about the life and insanity of Roman Emperor Caligula. Oh, and did I mention they also decided to insert a bunch of hardcore sex while they were at it?

It’s a movie that’s production history is so damn bizarre and fascinating that it’s easy to see why this has gone on to be such a cult movie. Why did this get made? What were they thinking? How many cock close-ups do we possibly needed?

Yes, there was a time before the good ‘ole internet where we actually had to resort to books (not IMDB) to learn about movies. Where we built up of knowledge of all things filmmaker, horror, b-movie, and beyond. It was a glorious time to be a kid and thanks to the abundance of movie reference books out there you can recapture the thrill of flipping through pages of analysis and stills.

First off we’ll catch you up on the (lots) we’ve been watching in the three weeks between episodes including some Nice Guys, a couple of murderous doll movies, and an oddly large amount of found footage flicks.

We all know Frankenstein. King Kong. Godzilla. But what about the monsters equally as cool that you might not know about? This episode we shine the light on monsters we think deserve more recognition from the smallest of minions, to a toothy outer space invader, and even a sssssssnake man.
